Epifani was founded in 1994 by Nick Epifani, whose roots trace back to Italy, where his passion for sound first began. Before building world-class bass gear, Nick was a working musician—playing guitar and drums—while studying electronics in Italy. After moving to the U.S. as a singer and guitarist, his keen ear soon led him to re-engineer other people’s amplifier and cabinet designs, correcting flaws others overlooked. Musicians quickly noticed. So did top manufacturers like Fane and Bruno Amps, who sought Nick’s expertise for their own products.
Guitar cabinets came easily. Bass was the real challenge—and that’s where Nick’s innovation took hold. What started as a few custom bass cabinets soon grew into full demand. In 1994, Epifani Custom Sound was officially born.
The Breakthrough
A turning point came when Nick met Joey and Vinnie Fodera, founders of the world-renowned Fodera basses. Their roster included icons like Victor Wooten, Anthony Jackson, and Matthew Garrison. When they heard Epifani cabinets, they said it was the first time they could truly hear their instruments as intended.
From there, Nick began building for the industry’s elite—custom 2×12s for Garrison, 3×10s for Lincoln Goines, and pioneering builds for Anthony Jackson that redefined cabinet design. Using Baltic birch, silver wiring, and custom drivers, Epifani set a new benchmark for accuracy and tone.
The NYC and later the UL Series cabinets established Epifani worldwide—offering cleaner, truer sound at half the weight of traditional bass boxes.
Innovation and Engineering
By the late 1990s, Nick and Italian engineer Franco Savio turned their attention to amplification. Years ahead of their time, they developed one of the first digital bass amplifiers, culminating in the UL 502 and UL 902—studio-grade, high-power amps released in 2004 that became instant classics.
Today, Epifani continues to lead in lightweight, high-performance design. The latest D.I.S.T. Series cabinets feature precision-machined internal architecture, cast aluminum frames, and Dual Impedance Speaker Technology—a proprietary neodymium system that optimizes performance for single or multiple-cab setups.
On the amp side, the new Piccolo Series embodies the evolution of Epifani engineering: a proprietary Class-D power platform, switch-mode power supply, and exclusive Epifani Vintage Circuit that delivers warm, tube-like 1960s tone in a lightweight, tour-ready form.
The Legacy
From hand-built workshops to collaborations in Torino, Italy, every Epifani product reflects the same mission: to bring musicians closer to the pure, natural sound of their instrument.
Over 30 years later, the name Epifani still stands for uncompromising tone, innovation, and craftsmanship.
